Getting People & Pets Together - Keeping People & Pets Together

Fishtails Animal Rescue, the rescue arm of the Fishtown Animal Hospital, was created by Dr. Lauren Cohn when she saw a need for an additional space committed to the rescue and rehabilitation of stray and shelter animals in her community. She began her rescue efforts by pulling animals from local shelters that would normally be deemed “unadoptable” due to extreme medical concerns, providing the animals with necessary medical treatments, safe and loving temporary foster care, and ultimately finding them their forever homes.

Almost immediately, Dr. Cohn found that there was an additional need in her community beyond rehabilitating and rehoming stray and shelter animals. Too often, pet owners find themselves faced with temporary financial crisis when a beloved pet is diagnosed with an extraordinary medical condition or is in need of life-saving veterinary care. Owners may be faced with the choice to surrender their pet to a shelter or to euthanize them in such cases. Dr. Cohn decided that Fishtails Animal Rescue would develop a fund that would be dedicated to providing financial assistance to these pet owners.

The Fishtails Fighting Chance Fund came into existence in order to cover medical costs beyond routine veterinary care, to allow loving pet owners to avoid surrender and/or euthanasia of a beloved pet. Pet owners do have the option to surrender their pet to Fishtails Animal Rescue if they find themselves incapable of providing the care needed.

Currently, Fishtails Animal Rescue provides medical services to stray, abandoned, and surrendered animals, placing those animals into foster care while they wait for their forever homes. Fishtails Animal Rescue uses its Fighting Chance Fund to provide financial assistance to pet owners facing extraordinary veterinary expenses, to avoid surrender or euthanasia of a beloved family pet.

The Fishtails Animal Rescue believes that every animal deserves their fighting chance.

Fishtails Adoptable Pets
Maeve is the queen of the castle. She is approximately 15 years old, but don’t let her age fool you. She will jump and play just like a kitten. She is felv/fiv negative and spayed. She really loves on her own terms. She will come and snuggle when she feels safe, but also prefers to bask in the sun on her own and enjoy her quiet time alone. She would do best in a quiet home without children or dogs.
Sam Siam
This Siamese hunk is sweet just like his brother, Sid. They are approximately 7 years old. They both were both rescued from harsh living outside. They are neutered and vaccinated. They have grown to love each other so would like to keep them together. Did you know that cats with FIV can live happily and safely with cats who are negative? Sam is shy at first but once he warms up, his purrs can be heard around the world. They would prefer a home with no dogs.
Inky wants attention and love! Head and chin rubs are her favorite. She is a very laid back - go with the flow kinda cat. If your looking for a cat who just wants to be with you and part of the family then Inky is your girl.
This handsome boy is an approximately 5 1/2 year old, FIV+, neutered male. Sid is easily the most lovable cat that you'll ever meet. Sid loves making muffins! He's very playful, a big snoozer, and cuddle bug! Sid does well with other cats! Could do well with dogs if integrated properly.

Like Charles, Felix was time-stamped until Dr. Cohn saved the day...and his life! He also had a dental and neuter procedure and is waiting for his forever home. He would prefer a home without dogs.

This beautiful older lady desperate needs a lap to cuddle in and a window to watch the world. She is scared but very sweet. Please consider fostering or adopting Azia. She would do best in a home without dogs or children.

Radish (formerly Rico) was time-stamped and got a second chance at life after being rescued by Fishtails Animal Rescue! This second chance isn’t coming very easily for little Radish – he was hit by a car and was left in the shelter with a broken leg and diaphragmatic hernia with just hours left to live. He is in desperate need of surgery which unfortunately is very expensive due to the extent of his injuries. BUT WE HAVE HOPE with your help! This super sweet 6 month old black and white kitten continues to purr through all of this pain and will make an excellent companion after treatment. Please donate and show him that there ARE great humans out there who care about him! #raiseforradish

Sugar Cookie

Meet Sugar Cookie. This little curvy lady loves everyone she comes in contact with! She was time stamped and we picked her up. She really enjoys belly rubs, she likes to play, and she is friendly with other cats. Would do well in a family setting or one on one. This doll baby has no limitations when it comes to love. She had an injury to her leg that was treated and she is recovering well! She is also FIV/FELV negative.
